Founder of Middle-earth Network and Middle-earth Network Radio along with many of my friends, like Walt, John, Candace, and of course Mahj, Ian, and Melmus :) I'm a father, & madly in love with my spouse Julie. I'm a person of faith much in the vein of Tolkien and Lewis. I'm a printer (the old school, handmade paper, and ancient presses), and am lovin this community! This is me in real life. This is where I can come and connect with freinds who share the same interests in Tolkien, fantasy, and things in real life. I wanted to help create a social network like this so I could connect with people who share similar values and do so in a safe environment where people respect one another. Plus I can do so in relative safety and privacy.

My Little-earth

Get ready for a world class new show on Middle-earth Network Radio! ‘My Little-earth’ is a new series that is being produced by actor Tyler Michael Jonsson, and Mark Ostley, co-founder of Middle-earth Network.

My Little-earth is a weekly dramatized series that will cater to children of all ages by re-telling the great fantasy classics of our time. The first series is in production right now, and is a dramatized version of George MacDonald’s ‘The Princess and the Goblin’. MacDonald once wrote, “I write, not for children, but for the child-like, whether they be of five, or fifty, or seventy-five.” The first episode is planned to air this month on Middle-earth Network Radio.

If Tolkien can be called the ‘Father’ of modern day fantasy literature, then MacDonald could rightly be considered the ‘Grandfather’. He greatly influenced some of the contemporaries of his time and his enthusiasm for ‘Alice’, convinced Lewis Carroll to submit the work for publication. His use of fantasy as a literary medium and commentary on the human condition was of profound inspiration to the next generation of writers, among them Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Madeleine L’Engle, W.H. Auden, and others. His great works ‘Lilith’, ‘Phantastes’, ‘At the Back of the North Wind’, and of course ‘The Princess and the Goblin’ stand out as some of the great fantasy literature written in the 19th century. While his works are not widely known by many fans of Tolkien, one only has to read ‘The Princess and the Goblin’ to see it’s echo in Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit’.

Tyler Michael Jonsson

Actor Tyler Michael Jonsson, better know among Middle-earth Network Radio fans as the voice behind the show ‘Ask Gollum’, will be the main voice and narration for ‘The Princess and the Goblin’. Jonsson has been trained at the New York Film Academy, and has called Los Angeles home since 2003.  Since then, he has continued to train in both collegiate and private professional settings. He has acted in several film and stage productions in the Los Angeles area, most notably the stage productions “subUrbia” and “Joined at the Head” – Both of these performances earned him award nominations with the prestigious Kennedy Center.  Other selected stage credits include: “Dark of the Moon”, “(Anon)ymous”, “All My Sons” and the musical “Evita”.

Middle-earth Network will also be drawing on members of it’s social community, ‘My Middle-earth’, to provide original music and soundtrack that will be integral to making this a memorable and inspiring experience for everyone who listens.

Plans for the production are to first air on Middle-earth Network Radio, and be available in the future as a download through i-Tunes, and other media. There are also plans to release the entire work as an audio book on the Middle-earth Network record label, ‘Strongsword Records’.

One thing I’d like to add, is that Tyler in his role as a voice actor, brings a level of personality and drama to this series that blows away any audio presentation I’ve ever heard. The soundtrack/music will be pretty epic as well :)

This is a perfect project for Tyler! He has so much passion for stories like this and that will be evident in his character narrations. So happy that he is involved in something he believes in and loves. Best wishes for much success from one proud and happy Mom! :-)

I can tell you that myself, and the others involved are thrilled to have Tyler and his talent on board this commmunity project. He’s a natural at this and his readings of the material definately ‘knock it outta the park’.
