There and Back Again: Middle-earth Network Announces New Zealand Tour

Pinterest

You heard it here first, folks!

Middle-earth Network is working with Ian Brodie, who also works at Hobbiton Tours, to put together an all inclusive tour to New Zealand. This is a trip you won’t want to miss! We’ll be touring ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ filming locations, as well as the new ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ locations. Ever dreamed of walking through Hobbiton or knocking on Bilbo’s front door in Bag End?

(Assuming that your visit is related to “Party Business” of course!)

How about walking the plains of Rohan or the forests of Lothlorien? This is your chance!

Come travel to the real Middle-earth and meet the Founders of the Middle-earth Network and many other fans along the way.

Our hope is to hit Wellington in time for ‘The Hobbit’ premiere, which is scheduled to happen sometime this November. But before we commit to any dates we wanted to ask you your thoughts. To do so, we’ve created two POLLS, just to the right of this page. It will be up only for a week’s time, so hurry and cast your vote.

  1. Aw, no way! I won’t get to go with you guys! My group goes in 2013! :/

    • I’m planning to come to NZ anyway and I’d love to do it with fellow Tolkien enthousiasts. Let’s hope our timelines can fit !

  2. I’ve been traversing the LOTR lands in NZ through google earth and I just said one of my bucket list of things to do is go to Huka Falls on the river “Anduin”! Oh this would be a dream come true for me!

  3. If only i had the money :/ 16 year old here lol.

  4. I reckon that Ian Brodie should put one of these tours together for Kiwi Tolkien enthusiasts/LOTR Movie Geeks!! Hobbiton is excellent, rustic, middle-earth in reality etc. Mount Sunday/Edoras is excellent, stunning, beautiful, and wow-worthy! The whole country is gorgeous and I think NZrs would really benefit from having this kind of tour to help them explore their very own Middle-Earth! I’d be keen at any rate…

  5. Must see if I can mangle my schedule and budget enough to make this!!!

  6. I’ve had only 4 hours of sleep and no coffee, but I don’t need it because I’m SOOO excited about THIS TRIP!! It’s going to be EPIC.

  7. Sounds a wonderful idea. will the trip include tickets to The Hobbit premiere?

    • We’re hoping too at this point, however, the exact date for the premiere has not been set. All we know right now is that it will be sometime late November.

  8. Amazing! Can’t wait!

  9. I’m IN! So in! Waaay in!!! It’s going to be awesome. 😀

  10. Isabelle Olsson says:

I live in Sweden but i want to come so bad!! please help me! :)

  11. Well, I guess I have to start praying and saving money.. 😀

  12. If I could go I would but I’m both poor and in college. Even if I could afford such a trip, all of the dates fall sometime during my classes and I couldn’t afford to miss weeks worth of school, even if it was for such a great opportunity. I wish all of those who do get to go have a wonderful time and remember to take lots of pictures.

  13. Same, Isabelle! I’m also a Swede and I’m dying to do this, oh god I’ve been dreaming of this forever! I would do anything to be able to go on this trip. 😀

    • For those that live outside of the US we do have plans to make the package available with airfare from various countries.

  14. So jealous– sounds wonderful
Doubt I could swing it though (2 kids in college as we speak)
    *big sigh*

  15. I would love to go! Please keep us updated on the dates/cost because it would be amazing if I could make this work. Seeing NZ with fellow fans would be incredible.

  16. Any guesstimates on price range? o.O I’m looking for a closer ballpark than simply “a lot.”

  17. We went in Feb 2003 and though we didn’t go with a tour group specific to LOTR, our guide still made sure we got to most of the locations! The LOTR movie prop museum exhibit was in it’s last days at Te Papa Museum in Wellington before traveling stateside. Going to NZ is truly the trip of a lifetime.

  18. We have plans to go in February or March of 2013 so this might be perfect timing, woohoo!

  19. How much money???

  20. I put in a request with the magic travel fairy. Maybe she will leave a ticket under my pillow.

  21. Definitely count me in!!

  22. I am very interested in going on this trip. I should be able to come up with money and time in November 2012.

    –Harper

  23. I would definitely go (no matter when) I have been planning a trip for months, but couldn’t find anyone to go with. If you guys need any help with organization (Europe), I’m your man. 😉

  24. I would love to go! You should create a facebook event or something to keep track of this thing :)

  25. Lets go!! :)

  26. So, is there a bulk discount so I can bring my tribe of mini-vikings? That or no 7/11 will be safe from the blade of my axe!

  27. I very much want to go! It’s probably going to be out of my price range, but maybe if I start saving now… and beg my parents for help… or talk them into going too… they were talking about the possibility of a cruise someday and this is obviously superior… hm…

  28. oh my. This would be the ultimate trip. the Premiere. oh my goodness. Dream right here. wow. Maybe if I get a job and can save up by then I can go! Please e-mail the details to me whenever you have them including cost! I’m Canadian. and 16 but have traveled alone before! oh my! haha! Thanks, If I get my job as a tutor I can probably save up enough money to go! YAY!

  29. Forgot to log in! haha…. Hopefully I can go! E-mail or msg/post details whenevr.. ASAP :) WOOT!

  30. I’m most defiantly coming, its about a hop over the deep blue ocean…and I would love to meet some fellow lovers of fantasy XD

  31. Very interesting! I’d be travelling from the other side of the world (Portugal) so I have to think about it thoroughly. I’ll be checking up on you guys for more details!

  32. Well it’s really funny you’re planning something I’ve long dreamed of and am planning to do (saving money that is 😉 ) for late 2013, year of my 50th birthday :)
Please feel free to contact me !

  33. My husband and I are very much considering going on this amazing tour. We’re not really interested in the Narnia sites, though. Even Tolkien himself was not a fan of allegories.
BTW, I was fortunate enough to see the traveling museum exhibition of LOTR costumes and props in Indianapolis. That was amazing. My favorite thing was Boromir in his funeral boat. You would swear that it really was Sean Bean.

  34. I’m a college teacher so plenty of vacation time but sadly it seems like these tours are taking place when I work. Any chance of tours being offered late December – Mid January or mid May – Mid August?

This would honestly be a dream vacation. What better way to share traveling to such an amazing place with fellow Tolkien fans! Keep us posted please!

  35. Wow this would definitely be a dream trip. To see such an amazing place with like-minded people who share the passion for all things Tolkien! As a college prof I have lots of vacation time; hopefully they schedule something between late December-mid-January or Mid-May to Mid-August :)
