Hobbit Actors Help Pens for Poverty

Writing a play and having it performed in public would be the dream of many a youngster and for some lucky children it’s about to come true thanks to the charity ChildFund. The New Zealand charity has hit on a great way to encourage children to hone their writing skills whilst raising money to fight poverty in countries like Sri Lanka. Their Pens for Poverty challenge invites schools to enter their 10 to 13 year olds in a script writing competition. The winning script will then be performed by professional actors in Aukland in December reports Wellington.scoop.

And The Hobbit connection?  Actors Mark Hadlow and John Callen are on the panel for judging the scripts and choosing the winning entry. Both play dwarves in the film with Hadlow playing Dori and Callen playing Oin.

It all sounds like great fun and let’s hope they raise lots of money to help children living in poverty across the world.
