Ian McKellen to Star in Sitcom

Sir Ian McKellen is taking on a new challenge with reports that his next role will be to star in a British sitcom.

Sir Ian, who plays Gandalf in The Hobbit, will star with Derek Jacobi in Vicious Old Queens, a new sitcom about an elderly homosexual couple living together in London’s Covent Garden, reports The British Comedy Guide.

The series of six 30-minute episodes has been written by Gary Janetti, a former writer and executive producer of hit American sitcoms Will & Grace and Family Guy. It should be broadcast next April.

An ITV source said,

“No one can quite believe ITV have managed to get Sir Ian on board. Brit stars don’t get much bigger than him. It’s a great coup for ITV to get these two.”

  1. Wow! I can’t believe they got Ian to do a sitcom either! That said, I am sure he is doing it (also) for political reasons. He is a rebel, after all, and I think this will help his causes. Plus…sometimes TV isn’t all that bad. Many actors go into tv and their careers grow even more.

  2. I can’t wait! Love the name of it as well! Way to go Sir Ian! I may have to purchase a tv just to watch this.
