Listen to ‘The Hobbit’ Soundtrack – 60 Second Excerpts!

A lot of us were so excited about the soundtrack for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey from Howard Shore, that the moment it was available online, we clicked that pre-order button!

EDIT: As of the evening of November 8, the music has been taken down! We’ll let you know when it’s back up on this site or elsewhere.

But maybe you wanted to hear a bit of the soundtrack first? (Spoiler: You will want it now!)

The website Qobuz.com has 60 second clips of each of the songs from the Special Edition version of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Soundtrack. That means all 32 tracks from 2 discs! And while some of the songs, like “My Dear Frodo,” are quite long (8 minutes…can anyone say prologue?), others, like “Blunt The Knives,” are much shorter, so the preview lets you listen to almost the entire piece!

I’m not sure that the film will physically take place in Hobbiton and The Shire for longer than The Fellowship of the Ring, but since the movie centers around Bilbo Baggins, there seem to be more pieces with that hobbit-y feeling. Some of them are very reminiscent of themes in The Lord of the Rings, but I think fans of hobbits and the whimsical music they inspire will be very pleased with tracks like “Old Friends,” “An Unexpected Party,” “The Adventure Begins,” “The World is Ahead,” and “A Very Respectable Hobbit” (An Exclusive Bonus Track, in case you weren’t sure about springing for the Special Edition!).

And if you thought you already loved the cast of dwarves, well, I think you’ll find yourself further infatuated after listening to “Blunt the Knives” (another Exclusive Bonus Track–seriously just order it already!) and more of “Misty Mountains.”

Visit Qobuz.com to listen to excerpts from all 32 songs!

See our previous story with the full track list (updated with track times).
