Alamo Drafthouse Adds ‘Hobbit’ Food to Epic Feasts

C’mon, admit it! One of the first things you think of when you think about hobbits is food. They are infamous for eating seven meals a day, though Second Breakfast might be the most hobbity. And now that the first installment of The Hobbit movie trilogy is coming out, what better way to celebrate than with a feast?

We’ve reported before (twice!) about the amazing Lord of the Rings Trilogy Feast that the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas puts on, and not only have they scheduled another epic meal to honor the movies, but they’ve created an all-new Hobbit Feast!

Here is the schedule of events at the Alamo Drafthouse:

Saturday, December 8: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Marathon (sans feast)

In an attempt to get Middle-Earth lovers even more excited for the opening of Peter Jackon’s The Hobbit we’re showing the complete Lord of the Rings trilogy back-to-back-to-back. Okay, we’re not only showing them because The Hobbit is opening, if you haven’t noticed we pretty much screen these masterpieces as much as possible because we love them so much. And before you ask; yes, all three films will be the extended editions.

To make things even better and nerdier each film will have video intros by writer/director/producer/all around expert in adapting Tolkien for the big screen Peter Jackson. So come prepared for a day-long event of unrivaled cinematic epicness as we showcase these spectacular films on the big screen.

Sunday, December 9: The Lord of the Rings Feast

For those who’ve never heard of this life-changing quest and/or don’t know a hobbit from a hobo, well, here’s the deal: At the Lord of the Rings Trilogy Feast, we snuggle up together in the theater and brave our way through the ENTIRE extended-cut versions of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy  — nearly 12 hours — all while devouring food and imbibing drink inspired by Tolkien’s Middle Earth!  Each of the seven courses is served during Hobbit meal times (which is pretty much ALL the time)! When we reach the end and the King (spoiler alert!) ascends to his rightful throne, you too will be ready to return to the Shire and be greeted as a hero by your loved ones who didn’t think you would make it all the way…and then pass out in a blissful food- and film-induced coma.

December 18-20: The Hobbit Feast

You know we couldn’t just let The Hobbit open and not do a feast in its honor.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Feast has been a tradition of ours for years and we couldn’t be more excited to have a brand new Tolkien movie inspire our culinary minds come up with more delicious Middle-Earth creations. Not only that, we will again be provided amazing drink pairings to accompany every course, so while your eyes and ears are being blown away by what’s on the screen, your tastebuds won’t be forgotten.

So be a part of this new chapter of Alamo’s Lord of the Rings Feast with The Hobbit Feast. Prepare for your mouth to water.

Sadly, it’s a bit far for me to visit Austin for any of these amazing events. I may have to satisfy my cravings for Hobbit food by trying out some of the recipes from Middle-earth News’ Tolkien Feast Week!

Do you think you might be able to attend? What do you think of the Hobbit Feast menu?
