More Wearable ‘Hobbit’ Gear From Weta

As we get closer and closer to the world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in Wellington, Weta Workshop releases more and more movie swag!

The most recent round of additions are all things that you could wear to your first (or seventeenth!) screening of the film.

Magical Scarf of Gandalf the Grey

This luxurious woollen scarf is an exact replica of the scarf worn by Gandalf the Grey in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and created by Stansborough who made the original item for the costume department.

The special lustrous natural grey fibres and yarns were originally conceived by Stansborough forThe Lord of the Rings Trilogy and features in the very popular Hobbit Scarf, also available from Weta.

The Magical Scarf of Gandalf the Grey has also got added threads of ‘mithril’ (fine metallic thread) woven into the fabric to make it shine like moonlit silver.

The sheep from which the wool was shorn are known as Stansborough Grey – now a unique registered breed with historical connections to breeds kept by the Vikings in Scandinavia. The wool is then traditionally woven on historic looms dating back to the 1890’s, right here in Middle-earth (New Zealand).

This garment is totally pure, natural and chemical free and made to the highest quality to enjoy for many years to come.

The scarf comes stylishly presented in a cardboard box, with tissue, authentic Hobbit Hang Tag, The Stansborough story and a Scroll.

At 110 inches (2.8 metres) long and 12.6 inches (32 cm) wide, this substantial scarf is fit for a wizard. When hung around the neck, it will reach the knees of most people and the ground on Dwarves and Hobbits.

Stone Pendants

From the South Island of New Zealand, these natural riverstones have been cut from the peaks of the southern alps, ground by mighty glaciers, washed out to see by the Rakaia, Ashburton, Hinds and Rangitata rivers and finally washed up on the shores of Kaitorete Spit.

These tumultuous origins mean every stone pendant is unique – small variations to shape, colour and texture contribute to the raw beauty of these stones.

These stone pendants are shaped over millions of years by natural forces until they end up on a riverbed. Each stone is therefore unique and while the samples in the photos are roughly representative, variations in size, colour and appearance, such as veins, will occur. We make every effort to choose the most beautiful and representative pendants for our website orders.

Each stone is then engraved with the image. This is colour filled and each pendant is then hand polished with natural bees wax to give it lustre and also to give off a faint and pleasant scent when worn.
