Seeing Hobbiton With My Own Eyes

I’ve seen countless photos of Hobbiton. Whether they were taken by professionals or amateurs, Hobbiton holds its own magic and it shows through each snap shot someone takes. Still, with all the beauty I’ve seen in those shots, nothing – nothing – prepared me for the real thing.

There could not have been a better day to visit Hobbiton than today. The temperature was the perfect amount of warm paired with a slight cool breeze. The sun sat in the brilliant blue sky above, streamed through the wandering white clouds that passed by, and stretched its beams down onto the green hillsides. It. Was. Fantastic.

Ian Brodie

Our tour wasn’t the tour everyone else gets when they visit Hobbiton because our guide was Ian Brodie. He was wonderful! We heard all kinds of fun stories and insights on the detail put in to making Hobbiton what it is. He really is passionate about the place, and you could hear it as he guided us through the location.

Folks, Hobbit hole doors are adorable. You know this, I know this – but, seeing them with my own eyes took them to a whole other level. Each house is so unique! Some even have chopped wood outside the door, some beautiful pottery, others have clothes hanging on the line to dry.

The Party Tree is massive! I really did feel Hobbit sized standing beside it as I craned my head to get a look at the very top.

Do I have photos? Hundreds. And no, I’m not exaggerating. However, I won’t be posting them all on this particular post, as I’m tired and need sleep so I can be ready for tomorrow’s journey – Mount Doom. But don’t worry, I’ll be posting more photos and videos in due time. For now, enjoy these few treats.

Cheers from Hobbiton!
