UK Hobbit Fans to Wait Until April 8th for Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download Release

I’m afraid it looks that way, UK fans. According to the official UK Hobbit Twitter and Facebook accounts, our friends across the pond will have to wait until April 8th for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD & Digital Download release.

This news follows the recent announcement of the US release dates, where we learned the theatrical version of the film will be released as a digital download on March 12, and the 3-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack, the 5-Disc Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack, and the 2-Disc DVD Special Edition will hit retailers on March 19.

I’m suddenly reminded of the controversy that rose up once fans realized how spread out the theater premiere dates were around the world, with some countries several weeks behind others. How about it, fans? Are you wishing someone would come up with the cleaver idea of releasing everything all at once, or are you too excited about holding The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in your hands to care?

Well, don’t go pulling all your hair out, because I have some good news. The wait might well be worth it. Along with the US release dates, we also found out that the Blu-ray and DVD versions of the film will include a sneak peek of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug!

… and the hair pulling turns to instant squeeeeee! You’re welcome.

  1. Still a little hair pulling, just, maybe not to the point of baldness.

  2. Is this a UK only thing or does it indeed apply to all “across the pond” ? Any news on the release dates for the rest of Europe ? Cheers
