Martin Freeman won the Visionary Actor award at the third annual ShortsHD Shorts Awards in Los Angeles yesterday.

The Visionary Actor award recognizes  individuals who put their talent into making innovative short films and who embrace the idea of making films that run against the trends in mainstream movies.

Martin continues to be involved with short film making despite being in major projects like The Hobbit and Sherlock says EW  He recently appeared with Tom Hollander in the Bafta-nominated short The Voorman Problem.

At a press meeting Martin said,

“I love doing [short films] for the same reason that everyone in this room really likes them – because very often it’s the time that you get to really express an idea or ideas without someone breathing down your neck or without someone arguing about how big your trailer is.  No one’s getting rich or famous out of it, but people are actually trying to express something – and it doesn’t take 18 months like The Hobbit does.”
