I think all hobbits would agree that a Sunday roast is one of the best things about Sundays! Metro have compiled the votes from reviewers on Yelp to create their Top Ten list of the best places for a Sunday roast with all the trimmings.

At the top of the list is one of London’s oldest pubs, The Grapes. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Sir Ian McKellen himself is a proud owner. It has a impressive heritage; not only was it featured in the novel Our Mutual Friend by Charles Dickens, but Dickens himself was a regular. McKellen vowed to continue The Grapes in the same spirit, “Dickens wrote that ‘it had outlasted and clearly would yet outlast many a better trimmed building.’ It’s simply sentiment from my point of view that I wanted to make sure it continues to do so.”

Since he took ownership, plenty of Gandalf fans and celebrities have stopped by for a meal and a pint. But the locals still come out for the view and the Sunday roast. Aileen M on Yelp describes the roasts as ‘spot on.’ As well as a generous helping of meat you get ‘proper roasties, veg plate to share and plenty of gravy.’

You can visit The Grapes online at http://thegrapes.co.uk and follow them on Twitter @TheGrapesLondon. If you’re in London, be sure to stop by!
