‘Desolation of Smaug’ Trailer Will Be Released Soon!

Smaug ShirtUPDATE: The first trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be released Tuesday, June 11!

We’ve been anxiously anticipating a trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug every since…well, let’s face it. We’ve been waiting ever since The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hit cinemas. We were treated to our first trailer for that film almost a full year before its release date. Remember how it was released online through iTunes Movie Trailers and we fans sort of…broke their site as we all clamored to watch it at once?

We have no word yet on where or if the first trailer for The Desolation of Smaug will be available online, but the British Board of Film Classification have given the trailer their stamp of approval.

We’ve been speculating that our first look would be attached to the new Superman film, Man of Steel, which hits theatres Friday, June 14. Will moviegoers at the midnight showings of Man of Steel be the first to see the trailer?

The Desolation of Smaug introduces us to a host of new characters, including Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans), Beorn (Mikael Persbrandt), and Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly). Who are you most excited to see in the trailer? Do you think they’ll show off Smaug the dragon or will we have to wait until December for that?

If you haven’t already, make sure to vote for your most anticipated character in the poll on the right side of the page!

EDIT: I, Lily Milos, have let excitement get the better of me. I solemnly swear to more closely read dates and NOT get people’s hopes up by announcing official trailer release dates that don’t exist. The trailer will be released soon, but I completely made up the previously announced date of June 13.

  1. I hope hope hope we see some Beorn! Oh wow I’m so exited now. The trailer is so close!
I want to see as little as Smaug as possible until I get to see the movie in theaters. 🙂

  2. Lauren Ipsum says:

I think more people would be excited for the Master of Laketown if it was pointed out that he will be played by the magnificent Stephen Fry.
