The Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester, MA will be celebrating Middle-earth Day one last time before its doors close for good on December 31st. This year’s Middle-earth Day will be held on Saturday, September 28th from 10am-4pm.

Some of the activities, most of which are free with Admission ($12 for adults and $8 for ages 4-16; children 3 and under are free!), include:

  • Tolkien Tales
  • Hobbit Sing-along
  • The Uglier Side of Prosthetics: Making an Orc Mask

A full schedule of events for the day can be found by visiting http://www.higgins.org/calendar/2013-09-28

What better way to end your Tolkien Week celebration this year than by enjoying Middle-earth Day with your little hobbit, Dwarf, or Elf? Children of all ages will have fun building their own shield or learning about the various types of weapons which inspired those seen in Middle-earth. I decided to check out last year’s Middle-earth Day celebration; you can read more about my adventure here.

Update: Corey Olsen, the “Tolkien Professor” and author of Exploring J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, will be hosting a two-hour Q&A session on The Hobbit during Middle-earth Day.
