Get in touch with your inner hobbit by taking part in the Middle-earth News My Own Shire photo contest in honor of Hobbit Day and Tolkien Week!
Starting today, September 16, 2013 and running until September 29, 2013 submit your most hobbit-like photo: anything in your home or around that reminds you of a simple, Shire life.
We have amazing prizes including “never laugh at live dragons” pins and dragon tattoos from Houghton Mifflin, hand crafted hobbit door necklaces, and even more! TO SEE A FULL LIST OF PRIZES, SEE BELOW!
There will be five categories with one winner in each category.
- Most Beautiful Scenery; The Shire is without a doubt breathtakingly beautiful. Maybe you have a walking trail that looks lovely in the morning mist or an apple orchard where you have spent many hours reading under the boughs
- Best Food; If you like to cook, you may already be a hobbit. Submit a picture of a hobbit-y meal (or meals) for this category
- Coziest; A Shire life is a comfortable one. Perhaps you have a sunny breakfast nook or a comfortable reading corner that makes you think of Bag End.
- A Garden to make Sam Proud; Are you a gardener? Everyone knows that hobbits love a good tilled earth. Perhaps you have a vegetable garden with huge pumpkins or maybe a flower garden filled with all the colors of the rainbow.
- Best Cosplay; do you have a hobbit or Tolkien themed costume that you have poured your heart and soul into? Share a picture of yourself in your costume.

RULES

Send all submissions to hobbitday@middleearthnews.com, with “My Own Shire” in the subject line. ALTERNATIVELY you may submit your photos on Twitter @RachelTook1 with the hashtag #myownshire
- Submissions must include: your name, photo, the category you would like your photo to be judged in, and the title of your photo. A submission cannot be considered without this information! You may also include a short paragraph explaining why you chose that image, however, this is optional. Twitter submissions must include the category and title within the tweet.
- Each person entering is allowed to enter two photos – furthermore each photo may only be submitted to one category. For example: if you submit your photo for “best food”, it cannot be considered for “coziest”.
- Your photo must be original (no copyright infringement) and must not have been submitted to other photo competitions.
- Any indecent photos will immediately be deleted and not considered for this competition
- Have fun!
