Sir Peter Jackson received the New Zealand highest honour today.

Jackson received the insignia today from Governor-General Lieutenant General Sir Jerry Mateparae, becoming an Additional Member of the Order of New Zealand for services to New Zealand. This is a special Order of NZ, because a member’s estate had to return the badge after death, as Sir Jerry explained.

Jackson said it was an incredible honour:

“It’s very different – the Oscars have a little bit more glamour, if you like, a bit more glitz and glamour. This is obviously much more formal. […] I’m feeling great. This is an incredible honour and it’s fantastic to be here with my family. […] I can’t quite believe where I am today and it’s a tribute to all the people in New Zealand who have worked on our films.”
