The Telegraph reports that Peter, speaking from the red carpet of the world premiere of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug said, “We always wanted to cast nice people. You do become part of our family in New Zealand. It’s hard to film for 18 months so you do try to cast people who can be there for the long haul and have the right spirit, and we had a fantastic cast.
“People say that we take liberties with the books, and we are adapting it for cinema, but it’s great that it encourages people to read the books and also encourages young people to make movies.”
The world premiere of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug took place in Los Angeles on 2 December 2013.
