Rays Of Sunshine is a British charity organization that helps grant the wishes of kids with serious illnesses between the ages of 3- 18. Huddesfield’s Edward Loyd-Hughes, diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), was among the lucky ones to have his most unbelievable wish granted.

“Ed has cystic fibrosis so we asked the charity Rays Of Sunshine if they could grant his biggest wish of meeting his favourite actor, as a special treat.”

Thus, little Ed and his sister were taken to the Imaginarium Studios at Ealing to meet the amazing Andy Serkis, aka Gollum.

“Andy plays Gollum in Ed’s favourite films, The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings, which he’s totally mad about,” said Edward’s mum, Jane.

When they arrived, Andy was waiting at the door to meet them. They then spent around three hours together, learning acting and animation techniques with one of the biggest talents in Hollywood. The children even got the chance to try out all the fun on their own–putting on costumes and getting in character in front of the cameras–and no doubt, it was no less fun watching themselves reincarnate into the animation heroes.

“Andy was fabulous with the kids, really warm and friendly. He even signed Ed’s copy of The Hobbit, writing that he was a star and it was great to spend time with him.”

As a very small person of tremendous significance, strawberry hair, and an excessive love for mushrooms and things that grow once said, “Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.” And if we can help it, sometimes we must be that light in darkness for the smaller folk, when all other lights had gone out. Because these are the stories that are going to stay with us. The ones that really matter.
