Tolkien-inspired places at Coolum Beach on Google Maps: Frodo Court, Rohan Rise, Elrond Court

Due to the success of Peter Jackson’s trilogies set in Tolkien’s world, Middle-earth, New Zealand is now a required visit for Tolkien fans all around the world. But be careful, because it seems that Australia is becoming a possible rival!

Ray Grinberg, a big fan of Tolkien, has recently discovered an area called Coolum Beach in Queensland, where streets and squares are named after places and people from The Lord of the Rings: Frodo Court, Rohan Rise, and Elrond Court, just to name a few.

Grinberg says, “I think it’s much more interesting than any of the typical names you’ll find in most suburbs, and it adds a bit of fun and colour to the area. […] I’m sure some people wouldn’t like it, but for the most part it just seems to be a bit of a laugh and a nice feature for the local community.”

It seems that Australia wants to please more than just Tolkien’s fans. In fact, Coolum Beach is not the only region with famous streets. Pop culture and literary references can be found across the state with other notable examples include King Arthur Terrace, and Tennyson, with nearby streets named after Camelot, Lancelot, and Merlin.
