Nerd Fitness has created a Lord of the Rings Workout: One Plan to Rule Them All! In honor of the number of rings of power in Middle-earth, the workout focuses on doing exercises in sets of 3, 7, 9, 1. This is silly. I like it. Hey, any motivation to work out.  (Valdis)

New research from a team of scientists at the University of Western Australia will change the way you think about the difference between plants and animals. Mimosa pundica plants, they found, can learn and remember, despite not having a brain. Actor Martin Freeman met Prince William at the London premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and he described the prince as “the biggest royal fan,” and claimed, “He knew all the facts about Middle Earth.” (Maria Moa)

According to Box Office MojoThe Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug bowed from domestic theaters, last week, with an estimated $258.3 million! The film grossed $694,700,000 in foreign markets, making the current worldwide total $953,066,855. If only they could eek out that last $47M to get to the $1B mark. (Valdis)
