Warriors of the Westfold: Bree-land

Previously, the Warriors talked about one of the starting locations in Middle-earth: Ered Luin. Today, we’ve decided to highlight some of our favourite places and features of another main hub: Bree-land!

ALICE

It took me several visits to finally understand how to move my Hobbit in Bree. I kept losing myself among those streets and alleys. Honestly it’s thanks to the Anniversary Festival if now I know all the main streets and shops of Bree! My favourite moment to visit Bree is during night (and when it’s raining) because it reminds me the few scenes in The Fellowship of the Ring. The Prancing Pony is my favourite spot, there are always very good musicians in front of it and also it’s the place where I met Gandalf for the first time! I don’t like so much Bree-land in general and the other villages of Men, like Combe or Staddle, and it takes always forever to reach places like Hengstacer Farm without purchasing a ride, but I do really love the Barrow Downs (now that my character doesn’t risk her life anymore!)

Bree was the first region I decided to explore after completing nearly everything there is to be done in Ered Luin. While I miss all of the beautiful Dwarven architecture, I found that Bree has many exciting things to offer! Of course, this post would not be complete without mentioning the Prancing Pony. I have run into some of the most interesting characters there and have enjoyed some amazing music. On our particular server, Landroval, I’ve noticed that this location serves as a popular role-playing spot so there’s always amusing conversations going on. Despite frequenting the town of Bree for quite some time now, I always manage to get myself lost. After several minutes of frenzied running throughout the streets, I inevitably end up opening the map to plot out exactly which path I need to take.

However, there is much more to Bree-Land than simply the town or the Prancing Pony. Recently, while venturing through the Old Forest I met Tom Bombadil. I managed to snap a quick picture before he went dancing away. I have also been questing in the Barrow Downs lately. I haven’t found these quests to be particularly interesting but I am enjoying my encounters with all the creepy creatures that dwell within. Overall, Bree-Land has many secrets to uncover. There is so much detail to the landscapes and NPC’s. Every time I quest or go exploring in this region, I always run across something new. I can only imagine what I will find next!

BRITTA

I’ve played through the Bree-land region countless times as a result of my alt addiction; I’ve reached a point where I just want to get through as quickly as possible so I can hit the other regions of Middle-earth. Fortunately, the Bree-land quests, for the most part, move along very quickly so I can focus my attention on other regions. No matter how far I may travel, however, Bree-town in particular is my “go-to” hub. While there are other areas in Middle-earth which have all of the same features as Bree-town (such as vault-keepers, Auction Houses, barbers, etc.), I find the latter to be a more enjoyable place to socialise (or, if you’re like me, “people watch”). I am not a big role-player right now (maybe someday), but I do enjoy stopping to catch an occasional concert at the Prancing Pony or eavesdropping on players’ conversations. You can hear some pretty interesting things in Bree-town.

My other reason for visiting Bree-land is my house! This is the second or third home I’ve owned in this homestead. As much as I loved my previous home in Thorin’s Hall, I love having a green yard with trees and other yard decorations. Additionally, I live in the same neighbourhood as our Kinhouse, which is very convenient.

Bree-Land is a rather interesting region. The first time I began to explore Middle-earth beyond the borders of the Shire, I decided to go to Bree because I wanted to see the Prancing Pony so bad! While it looked different to how I’ve always imagined the Prancing Pony to be like, I soon began to love it. Actually, I really like LOTRO Bree more than Movie Bree. Movie Bree was too sinister to my liking. There are so many beautiful small alley I love to re-visit. Sometimes it’s as if I’m discovering new places. There is, for example, this adorable small back yard near the Staddle gate where children play. Even when there is no Festival in town, there seem to be frequent impromptu concerts and get togethers. One of the many reasons I love Bree.

Soon after I began to explore Bree-Land, I couldn’t help but being fascinated by the Old Forest and the Barrow Downs. Both places frighten me in a different way and I love it that they manage to frighten me. Everything seems to be in place, the lightening, music, and creatures. Now that my main’s level is high enough I’m able to explore both regions without dying. The fear remains though.

Bree is full of so many surprises, one of them being that awesome room filled with cats… a place my hobbit likes to visit too often. The town itself is so amazing, sometimes I forget how vast and detailed it is. I especially like seeing all of the NPCs, their clothes and hairstyles are really interesting. And then there’s the Prancing Pony! One of the first times I went there I walked by Nob, never knew I’d be so excited to see that guy.

I’ve never been a fan of the Old Forest, but that’s because it scares me. Yeah, even at level 60+ I still don’t like going in there. I run for my little hobbit life every time I go near Old Man Willow.

A while ago I decided to complete a lot of the deeds for Bree and that gave me the chance to explore the land further and go to places I’ve never been to before. So cool!
