Congratulations to the Winner of our Feast Week Contest!

Congratulations to the winner of our Feast Week Contest! We had amazing, beautiful, and mouth-watering entries from all the contest contenders. It was very difficult deciding between these magnificent Middle-earth themed meals. Here is the entry that stood out most to the Middle-earth News staff.

Our Feast Week Contest grand prize winner is Joshua M.! We were impressed with the Middle-earth feel of the feast that Joshua prepared, that he included cosplay in his photo, and that he even tried his hand at forced perspective (quite successfully). Here is Joshua’s description of both the cosplay and the feast:

I am dressed as the Ithilien ranger on the right, and my little sister is the hobbit on the left (She’s very shy about showing her face, so she she posed to block it). My youngest sister makes a small cameo as the Ringwraith trying to take a bite of food in the lower left corner. It took several shots to try to emulate the forced perspective trick used in the Lord of the Rings films, so I hope the different scales come through clear enough!

On to the real stars of the shot, here’s a menu of all the delicious food we have on the table, from left to right:
Cheese
The One-ion Ring
Roasted Taters
Strawberries
Fresh cream
Roasted carrots
Whole roast chicken
Cured meat slices
Pork sausages
Loaf of bread
Creamy butter
Freshly picked apples
Grapes
Hot tea
Roasted mushrooms
Hard boiled eggs
Freshly baked biscuits
Fried tomatoes
Pecan tarts
Apple pie
Ale & Cider (in our mugs)

As fun as it was to plan, cook, and create this feast, the best part was eating it after all the photos were taken! Absolutely scrumptious and filling!

The staff of Middle-earth News enjoyed all the contest entries so much that we wanted to share them with you. Here are the other fabulous contest photos and the descriptions each contestant included. Thank you to everyone who participated! We at Middle-earth News would love to come over for a feast at your houses any time!

Here we go! This is my entry for the Feast Week contest. I was aiming for a Gondorian feast fit for Aragorn’s court. On the menu, we had sweet spiced pumpkin soup (helpfully served in a pumpkin), roasted chicken with stuffing, apple-stuffed pork loin garnished with apples and plums and cranberries, gravy for both the pork and chicken, cranberry sauce, roasted vegetables (all different kinds), and toasted bread with tomato bruschetta and a selection of cheeses. To drink we had hot spiced apple cider (with a fancy orange with cloves in it) or white wine, and for dessert a cake with four layers of pound cake with apple jelly between the layers, filled and topped with plums cooked in a sweetened cranberry-cinnamon sauce. My parents joined me for the feast, but they weren’t keen on being photographed. You can see my father’s handiwork, though — he cut the cake and collected the leaves we used for decoration. It was all pretty delicious. I like to think Aragorn and Arwen would approve.

I created an entire feast for Bilbo’s birthday, but hard to capture in one picture, so I created a photo collage… I made all the food in the picture, including the giant cake for Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday.

Here is my entry into the Feast Week contest. Just a one person feast, with some handmade crockery (the stuff that looks uneven is mine!), a hearty onion soup, olives, cheeses, sausage, and of course a bracing pot of tea!

Very much what I expect a Hobbit would eat for a nice cozy lunch!

My meal is Dwarven-style. I have Chicken Parmesan as the main course, along with a hearty Bean and Pasta soup and a Roll as the side. For dessert I have a Pumpkin cake and for the drink I have “ale” which is Amaretto because alas, I have no ale.

A big THANK YOU to our contest sponsors!
