Sir Peter Jackson will receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a ceremony on December 8, 2014. As reported in the New Zealand Herald, the Kiwi director has “scored prime real estate on Hollywood, with his star sitting outside the Dolby Theatre, the home of the Academy Awards ceremonies.” Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame cermonies, said of Jackson’s work: “His groundbreaking and award-winning films are part of the legacy of larger-than-life, Hollywood-style entertainment that is beloved the world over.” The announcement that Jackson would receive a star was made in June 2014 (see the Middle-earth News story here).
Jackson’s guest speaker for the event will be Andy Serkis, known to fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit as the iconic character Gollum. Serkis also served as Jackson’s second unit director for The Hobbit films. Other LOTR and Hobbit cast members expected to attend the ceremony include Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Richard Armitage, and Elijah Wood.
Director Jackson and the cast will be in Los Angeles following a flurry of premiere events for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, the last installment of the Middle-earth franchise. Confirmed premieres include the world premiere in London on December 1, a French premiere in Paris on December 4, the Canadian premiere in Toronto and a Mexican premiere in Mexico City on December 6, and a special screening of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies at Comic Con Experience, São Paulo, Brazil, on December 7. Warner Bros. has not yet officially announced details of premieres in the United States.
