Celebrate Tolkien Reading Day in NYC

The New York City Area Friends of Tolkien and Fantasy invites you to join them for their Tolkien Reading Day event! Group member Timdalf says, “Tolkien Reading Day is just as simple as it appears. Those come who can and are free to choose any short Tolkien passage which they read aloud.” The event has taken place at the Books Of Wonder bookshop, but this year it has been moved to a quieter location in Simple Studios.

We have a sign up sheet and then go through it so everyone gets a chance and then if there is time left over we start the rotation again. We have done passages from The Lord of the Rings, from The Hobbit, from The Silmarillion, and from miscellaneous poems and short stories. No commentary usually. We  just let the works speak for themselves. I have no idea who will read or what they will read.  When our time slot is up, those who can usually go to a diner or other place to socialize a bit. This is an international event, so to speak, which was started by the Tolkien Society in England and is meant to be held around the world on March 25th the day of the fall of Sauron and the destruction of the Ring, but we shift it to the nearest weekend in order to get more time.

When: 3 p.m. March 21, 2015

Where: Simple Studios, 134 W 29th Street, 2nd Floor (Bet 6th & 7th Aves) Manhattan, NY 10001
