Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Box Set

It’s no dream – the box set all fans have been waiting for is here! A complete Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Limited Collector’s Edition Blu-ray box set is in the works, and according to Amazon, it will be available this Fall.

I say “fall” because there seems to be some confusion as to when it will actually be available. There are two current listings on Amazon right now giving very different release dates. The first one states the release date is October 4, 2016, however, does not state a price for the set. The second listing says you can pre-order now and the title will be released on November 1, 2016. It also lists the price of the set – a whopping $799.99!

Either way, we are talking 30 glorious discs that not only include all of the original extended edition content, but some new gems as well. Such as your own Red Book of Westmarch! See below for official set details:

For the first time ever, Academy Award®-winning director Peter Jackson’s epic adventure is available in one spectacular limited collector’s edition box set.

The Limited Collector’s Edition includes 30 discs featuring all six Middle-earth films in their extended edition forms, housed in six stunning faux leather books and a collectible Hobbit-style wood shelf. The one-of-a-kind wood shelf is crafted from solid wood with design selected by Peter Jackson.

In addition to the extended edition release of every film, the collection also includes all previously released bonus content from both the theatrical and extended editions. Exclusive premiums designed for the collection include: · Spectacular 100-page sketch-style book with replica The Red Book of Westmarch, filled with original film sketches and new artwork · Original reproductions of exquisite watercolor paintings by acclaimed conceptual artists Alan Lee and John Howe, framable and wall-ready.

The Hobbit Extended Edition Trilogy features almost one hour of additional footage that were carefully selected under the supervision of director Peter Jackson (THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES extended edition is rated R), and more than 34 hours of theatrical and extended bonus content. The Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Trilogy features more than 2 hours of extended scenes, also selected by Jackson, and more than 33 hours of theatrical and extended bonus content.

Bonus content from The Hobbit trilogy theatrical and extended editions will be included on Blu-ray disc. Bonus content from The Lord of the Rings trilogy theatrical and extended editions will be included on DVD disc. Additionally, digital copies of all films in their theatrical and extended edition forms will be included for download on Digital HD. Includes UltraViolet so you can enjoy the film on many different compatible devices. MUST ENTER REDEMPTION CODE BY 2019-12-31 TO REDEEM ULTRAVIOLET OFFER. DOES NOT INCLUDE iTUNES FILE.

No matter the cost, the collection sounds fantastic. Is the added features and extra content enough to soften the price for you? Before you start planning the most epic movie marathon you’ve ever hosted, let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!

  1. It looks amazing but I just can’t find a way to justify that price tag. If it is the reported $800 I’ll be giving it a miss.

  2. It’s a wonderful looking set but I’m DISGUSTED by the price. For shame.

  3. I am a massive LOTR fan, but $800 is just crazy. I’d want my own magic ring for that money! Come on….. Don’t be greedy!

  4. IT IS NOT COMPLETE, No 3D and no theatrical editions. Boycott Warner Bros. until they add what’s missing and lower the price… they should be ashamed and embarrassed for this pathetic and disgusting price.
