Last month, Netflix confirmed its launch in the UK and Ireland, having signed a multi-year licensing agreement which will make them the exclusive subscription streaming service in the UK. The company, which has been very successful in North America, has confirmed its first partnership with MGM.
“We are delighted to be entering the UK and Ireland with a legendary studio like MGM at our side,” said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos.
“Developing this relationship further will help us bring our films, both old and new, into the homes of our loyal audiences with the great ease Netflix offers customers,” said Roma Khanna, president of president of television and digital at MGM.
New MGM films like Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, as well as older films like Fargo, West Side Story, and The Amityville Horror, will be offered exclusively through Netflix during their pay-TV windows (available within a year of theatrical release); films will be accessible on a variety of streaming platforms, including televisions, computers, tablets, game consoles, and mobile devices.
