Sir Richard Taylor is one of the finalists in the Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Awards 2012 says TVNZ . Sir Richard is the creator and head of Weta Workshop, most famous for creating the props, costumes, prosthetics, miniatures and weaponry for The Lord of the Rings films and which, of course, is currently working on ‘The Hobbit’. The finalists have been chosen for making a major contribution to the nation, outstanding service to the country and inspiration through achievement. The other two finalists for New Zealander of the Year are Dame Suzie Moncrieff and Dr Sharad Paul.
The winner will be announced at a Gala dinner at the Langham Auckland on 16th January and will receive a New Zealand made trophy and $5,000 towards their work from sponsor Kiwibank.
Let’s wish Sir Richard luck and hope he can add this to the four Academy Awards that he shared in for the LOTR films.
