CinemaCon is the official convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners. CinemaCon 2012 will be held at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas from April 23-26.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is one of the films what will be previewed this week, showing “up to 10 minutes” of footage. Director Peter Jackson has been filming his two-part film of The Hobbit in 48 frames per second to reduce the problems that accompany 3-D movies. The audience at CinemaCon will be able to see the The Hobbit in RealD 3D at 48 fps using a Series 2 projector from Barco.
Between 40,000 and 50,000 of these projectors are installed at cinemas worldwide, 4,000 of which are in North America. And audiences may not have to wait until December 14 to see The Hobbit in a higher frame rate; it has been speculated that a 48fps trailer will be released in July.
