Last month’s rumours that Peter Jackson had rented around a hectare of space in the former General Motors parts warehouse in Upper Hutt are supported by the latest news from the Upper Hutt Leader of a great deal of activity at the warehouse. A photographer for the paper was asked by security staff to leave the area but not before he noted what resembled the signs of a set with a thatched roof and trees. New Zealand Defence Force vehicles were seen in the busy car park and security staff said they were working alongside the Force .
Upper Hutt is about 25 miles north of Jackson’s studios at Miramar. The area was used several times for locations in the Lord of the Rings films with Rivendell, Isengard, the Great River Anduin and Helm’s Deep all being filmed there.
Meanwhile, in other set news, Herr-Der-Ringe-Film have a picture on their website of a dwarven set with runes that read “Kingdom“. It is not known what the set is of although one guess is that it is the entrance to the Lonely Mountain.
