The Tolkien Society is delighted to announce that Sir Peter Jackson has donated two items to The Return of the Ring‘s auction.
The auction will raise money for The Tolkien Society’s project “Tolkien to the World” which seeks to donate copies of Tolkien’s works to libraries in less-developed countries. Sir Peter Jackson has donated a signed copy of The Lord of the Rings on Blu-Ray and a signed copy of The Hobbit ComicCon poster.
The Return of the Ring takes place at Loughborough University, England on 16th-20th August 2012 with the art show running over the entire duration of the weekend. The Return of the Ring celebrates the forthcoming films and 75 years of The Hobbit. It is the follow-up to Tolkien 2005 that commemorated 50 years of The Lord of the Rings and which was recently described by Ring*Con founder Marcel Bülles as “probably the best Tolkien-related event in history“. The auction takes place on the evening of Saturday 18th. To read about our auction, including on how to submit a commission bid, please go to Return of the Ring – Auction.
Shaun Gunner, Tolkien Society trustee, said: “I am staggered and delighted at Sir Peter Jackson’s generosity. His donations are very welcome! I am sure they are going to raise many hundreds of pounds and prove to be very sought-after collectibles – I would urge all fans, collectors and other interested parties to have a look at our list of items so they can appreciate just what an impressive set of lots of we’ve got.“
