The live stream doesn’t start until 3:50pm local time, and the stars don’t arrive until 4:30pm, but fans have been queuing up outside the Embassy Theatre in Wellington for the world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey since 9:00pm yesterday.
According to Stuff.co.nz, all of the best spots were taken by 8:00am this morning. One very clever group of fans brought a couch for the long wait and plenty of those lining the red carpet arrived in costumes.
Actor Mark Hadlow, who plays Dori in The Hobbit, and Wellington mayor Celia Wade-Brown visited the fans on Courtenay Place this morning.
Installations were still being put up today, with hobbit holes adding to the ambiance at the Embassy Theatre and menacing trolls looming over the red carpet. Fortunately, the New Zealand sun has made sure that they won’t be eating any unsuspecting celebrities or fans.
