Congratulations to Peter Jackson and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey!
Kiwi film-goers have voted The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey best picture and Peter Jackson best director in the Flicks.co.nz People’s Choice awards. The film has made nearly $1 billion in box office takings worldwide.
80,000 votes were cast by some 6,000 people to decide the winners in the 16 categories, which include Looper for best sci fi/fantasy and Skyfall for best action movie. The New Zealand Herald has a full list of winners. I can’t help admiring the Kiwis for that last category!

Evie was introduced to Tolkien's work by her boyfriend, over a beer in the Eagle and Child pub in Oxford. She went home, read the books and, a while later, married her boyfriend. She has only recently discovered fandom, after years of eye-rolling by her husband and children, and is delighted to find it warm and welcoming and not-at-all weird. As well as tracking down bits of news and sharing them with others, she leads ponies for Riding for the Disabled and loves the cinema and theatre and her wildlife garden.
