News From HobbitCon

It was HobbitCon last weekend and everyone, it seems, had a blast!

Eight of the actors who play the dwarves in The Hobbit were there: Graham McTavish (Dwalin), Dean O’Gorman (Fili), Adam Brown (Ori), Mark Hadlow (Dori), Jed Brophy (Nori), Stephen Hunter (Bombur), Peter Hambleton (Gloin)  and John Callen (Oin). Sylvester McCoy (Radagast) was also there. Although Richard Armitage didn’t attend, the cast did talk of him saying he was an incredibly sincere and generous man, a true leader and that, should they have to, they would follow him on a quest in real life.

Oh No They Didn’t! tells of some of the weekend’s antics including:

  • Jed Brophy confirming that they have already recorded some of the cast audio commentary for the extended DVD
  • Graham McTavish telling how Dwalin’s lower arm prosthetic can only be put on with talcum powder and how the sweat and talc builds up inside the prosthetic during the day, so extracting the arm results in everybody involved being sprayed with, what has come to be known as, “Dwalin-milk”
  • News of the infamous naughty calendar which, it seems, hangs in Peter Jackson’s bathroom.  Apparently, Adam’s picture involves Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (which Peter Jackson owns), some roller skates and legwarmers; Peter Hambleton’s picture involves a very large vegetable; Graham’s picture is a parody of the “Man Holding A Baby” poster, with him being the man and holding a shrunk down version of Adam Brown as the baby; William’s picture is of him in a padded cell, with his own prosthetic face near his groin; Stephen’s picture involves a very large bikini/bra; and Mark’s picture is a Marilyn Monroe kind of picture. Richard’s picture is of him sitting on a chair the wrong way around (but facing the camera), with his head back and his hair being blown with a hairdryer. We know from Dean’s revelations at Armageddon, that another of the pictures is of Dean and Aidan dancing a Tango, with Aidan dipping Dean.

The highlights of the HobbitCon weekend will soon be available on dvd but one of them – the dwarves singing Misty Mountains – has turned up on You Tube, so here it is for you to enjoy!
