The deadline for nominations to the 2013 National Film Registry has passed, and Middle-earth News would like to thank everyone who helped with our campaign to add The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring to the list!
All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us…
Only 25 films that are deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” are added to the National Film Registry each year. These films are earmarked for preservation by the Library of Congress. Could this be the year that The Fellowship of the Ring makes the list?
When the 2013 National Film Registry is announced in December, we’ll know what to do next. If Fellowship of the Ring is on the list, we can celebrate! Our focus will then become nominating The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers for the 2014 National Film Registry. However, if it doesn’t make the 2013 list, we’ll push even harder for 2014!
#RegisterFOTR
Using the hashtag #RegisterFOTR, we took to social media to get the word out. And we got a great response!
Because of stalwart followers and tweeters, Graham McTavish (Dwalin in The Hobbit), Beecake (Billy Boyd’s band), and Mark Ordesky (LOTR producer) shared tweets about our campaign.
Eve (@evelienh) wrote a post on Dominians United, a fan site dedicated to Dominic Monaghan, where she shared her personal note the National Film Registry. Facebook fan Andy Poole shared his personal message to the Registry on the Middle-earth News Facebook page.
