Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Cryptozoic Entertainment™ announced yesterday that a new board game, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, will be released on December 20th and retail at $40.
The second film in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, The Desolation of Smaug “really highlights the importance of cooperation and camaraderie between the characters,” Cryptozoic’s Board Game Brand Manager, Adam Sblendorio, said. “[Developer] Reiner Knizia has brought that feeling to the tabletop allowing players to put themselves in the shoes of these heroes. Players must work together if they want to survive the Dragon assault. It’s a great feeling to sit around a table with your closest friends and accomplish something together. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Board Game really captures the essence of the movie.”
In this game, 1-4 players ages 15 and up will accompany Bilbo and the thirteen Dwarves on their journey through Mirkwood and Lake-town, ultimately ending up at the Lonely Mountain. Although it is a standalone game, it can also be played as a sequel to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
This standalone game, which retails at $40, is suitable for 1-4 players, ages 15 and up; it can also be played as a sequel to Cryptozoic’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
