While we were enjoying the live streaming of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug world premiere the analysts, Wavemetrix, were busy watching us watch it. And just what did they discover? Well, that live streaming is great for getting us to tweet.
Wavemetrix found that tweeting about The Hobbit was up 423% on the day of the world premiere compared to the daily average the week before, with over 60,000 tweets. Tweeting peaked between 18.00 – 20.00 (PST) on 2 December, with us “loving” watching the premiere live. We were mainly talking about the film’s cast with the highest peaks occurring when Martin Freeman (Bilbo) appeared on the black carpet and when Benedict Cumberbatch (Smaug) was interviewed, when over 300 tweets per minute were recorded. Once the live streaming was over there were peaks in tweeting when @TheHobbitMovie posted pics of Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom and the full cast. Tweeting our intention to go and see the film increased by 75% on the day of the premiere compared to the average for the proceeding week and 67% of tweets used the HobbitPremiere hashtag.
