Seeing The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and having a hobbit house in his garden are two of the dreams on the wish list of seriously ill schoolboy, Reece Puddington.
11 year old Reece was diagnosed with childhood cancer neuroblastoma in 2008. Two years later, after treatment, he was pronounced cancer-free. Then, sadly, in August 2012 Reece was told the cancer had returned with tumours in his skull and liver and that there was little that could be done.
Reece, who lives with his family in Kent, England, made the wish list to cheer himself up. He posted it on The Reece Puddington Appeal facebook page saying, ” MY BUCKET LIST…I’d thought about doing a bucket list ever since I relapsed but as I had spent the best part of it thriving and shifting disease, it isn’t something I wanted to rush. Given my recent decline in health I feel now is the time and I’d like to share it with you all. Some things will be possible and some things will remain a dream, but they will be MY wishes.” The list received over 10,000 views in the 24 hours after Reece posted it on 23 January, 2014. And ever since, kind-hearted people have been rallying to help make Reece’s dreams come true, with many generous donations of money and his Wetherspoon’s breakfast, X-Box and driving lessons for his mum all realised.
Reece’s mother, Kay, told the Canterbury Times, “We had talked about a list when he first relapsed but I didn’t want to because he was doing so well on the treatment and thriving and shifting the disease. But the last three or four months have seen a steady decline. The list is all things he has mentioned that we just can’t pay out for, or organise.”
Here’s Reece’s Bucket List:
I’d love to see my mum learn to drive (it’s been too long)
An Alienware laptop (as I can no longer get out of bed)
A bedroom of my own
An Xbox One (I’m gaming mad)
To see ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ movie.
To collect £1,000 in £20 notes (I’ve already got to £540!)
A money clip to hold all the money
A holiday to Sun City in South Africa (I’ve always wanted to go since seeing the destination on World’s Strongest Man)
Meet Johnny Depp dressed in character as Captain Jack Sparrow (my favourite movie)
A Wetherspoon’s breakfast with my favourite people
A Wikipad gaming pad (just because they look quite cool)
To have a Hobbit House in my back garden (how cool is that )
A black Beats Pill
A blue PS4 controller
