Critics Associated recently featured an interview with Jed Brophy. Interviewer Elisa Scubla discussed a breadth of topics with Jed, ranging from his many appearances in Peter Jackson’s films to the actor’s favorite things to read. A number of the questions focused on Jed’s multiple roles in The Lord of the Rings films, and his creation of Nori in The Hobbit franchise.
When asked what scene in The Hobbit: There and Back Again he is most looking forward to seeing on the big screen, Jed replied:
“I think the Battle of the five armies and in particular our charge out of the fortress. We had been waiting two years to do that scene and on the morning we filmed Richard Armitage turned to me and the gleam in his eye said it all. He said to me, ‘We have been waiting two years to do this and I can see you are ready.’ He was so much our king in that single moment. It was like the charge of the Rohirrim in the Return of the King which I was also lucky to be a part o. Just. . . well hard to describe, but very emotional.”
Jed points to the charge of the Rohirrim at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields as his all-time favorite scene:
“Bernard Hill was at my theatre show the other night and we talked about that scene and the goose bumps came up for both of us. . . it was the closest thing to really going over the top in conflict that I have ever felt. It was no longer a film. . . we were really charging. I doubt we will ever feel that again but I hope we do.”
Fans of The Hobbit films are all anxious to know if there will be any more pickup filming for The Hobbit: There and Back Again. Jed doesn’t have the answer to that question, but says that he and the other actors would love to see it happen, adding “We shall wait and see, but it would be fitting.”
Jed also shared his thoughts on The Silmarillion as films, his recent experiences on The Minister of Chance and An Unseasonable Fall of Snow, and developing Nori for The Hobbit. You can read the entire interview on the Critics Associated site.
Middle-earth News’ own Myla Malinalda had the opportunity to interview Jed last year. Myla and Jed talked about preparing for Nori, including the well-known hairstyle, attending conventions, the close-knit cast of The Hobbit, and a host of other topics. You can find Myla’s May 2013 interview with Jed here.
