Weta Digital has just released this brand new video providing new information about how they created Laketown for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Some of the highlights from the video include:
- The models department built 50 unique building, 8 unique bridges, and 6 towers.
- Laketown covers a ground of 200,000 square meters.
- Up to 1,500 buildings are visible in some of the shots.
- Over 2 million planks of wood, 405 million roof tiles, and 1,749 walkways were created to bring Laketown to life.
- Atmospheric haze played a huge role in setting the mood of the city and contributed to making the shots look cold and mysterious at the same time.
- From many angles we see Erebor (The Lonely Mountain) as a constant reminder of the challenge that lies ahead for the Dwarves and Bilbo.
