The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has ended the first week of video sales at the top of the sales charts in both the US and UK, knocking Walt Disney’s Frozen into second place. Frozen had held the top spot in the US for the last three weeks.
In the US, Variety reports that The Hobbit: DOS outsold Frozen by two to one overall with Blu-ray sales outstripping Frozen by three to one on the Nielsen charts. In the UK, The Hobbit: DOS became the third biggest selling video title of 2014 so far, behind The Hunger Games – Catching Fire and Frozen, selling 674,000 copies in its first week, according to the Official Charts Company.
