María and Olaya from Oviedo, Spain are going to embark on a quest–A Hobbit Quest! Their aim is to travel to the Wellington premiere of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, but as we all know, any good adventure is about the journey just as much as the destination.
“Our idea is not just fly to Wellington but take the chance to make stopovers along the way to meet other Tolkien and Peter Jackson’s LOTR fans. And, since we love travelling by train, it’s the perfect means of transport for this adventure. Yes, it’s an adventure! Of course we’ll need to use also planes, buses, and ships to reach Middle-earth, we mean… New Zealand.”
Their travels will begin on October 23, 2014. “Our journey starts by taking a train from Oviedo to Bilbao (also known as Bilbo) (not THAT Bilbo). That is going to be the first stretch of an adventure that will lead us to travel half way around the world, to finally reaching our antipodes (and Middle-Earth too).”
They hope to make a documentary about their adventure, and since they both work in audiovisual fields, they said it’s the best way they can find to express what the journey will mean to them.
“Obviously we’re gonna need financial support,” they said. “We can’t fund this project on our own. We’re searching for sponsors, both in Spain and abroad, and we’re going to launch a crowdfunding world campaign. Besides, we’re open to any contributions of any kind from anyone, such as hosting, equipment, travel tickets, advising, contacts… anything.”
