Happy Birthday to Adam Brown who turns 34 today!
Around these parts, Adam Brown is known for his portrayal of the dwarf Ori in The Hobbit films. We can’t imagine anyone else in the role of our beloved scribe, so it’s hard to believe that Adam originally auditioned for the role of Bilbo Baggins.
When it looked as if Martin Freeman wasn’t going to be able to take on the role of the titular character, Adam went in for a reading, and though he had fun, he was a bit more excited about his audition for a BBC sitcom. Luckily for us, he scored the role of Ori and was whisked away to New Zealand to work with director Peter Jackson on the set of The Hobbit.
Adam admitted that he never went to the gym before the infamous “dwarf bootcamp” that the actors went through to prepare themselves for their roles as dwarves, but after filming, he has become a regular. Back in April of this year, his training paid off as he ran the London Marathon in honor of his father who unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack at only age 58. Adam’s run helped to raise awareness in addition to raising over £6000 for the British Heart Foundation.
Before The Hobbit, Adam studied Performing Arts at Middlesex University, where he met Clare Plested with whom he formed the comedy writing/performing duo Plested and Brown. The company produced some well-received shows such as Carol Smillie Trashed My Room, The Reconditioned Wife Show, Hot Pursuit, and Minor Spectacular. They toured the UK as well as performing in Armenia, South Korea, and New Zealand.
More recently, we’ve been able to see Adam in the short film Minimus, in which he plays a gladiator who would really rather not fight in the arena if it’s all the same to you. He also plays a kid at heart in this commercial for Haribo.
