We now have our first look at Richard Armitage as John Proctor in The Crucible courtesy of the Old Vic Theatre. Fans of The Hobbit films are probably more familiar with him in his dwarven guise playing Thorin Oakenshield, but either way, this is one actor with a commanding presence on stage and on screen. In The Crucible, Armitage will portray John Proctor, the play’s tragic hero. Proctor is a good man, honest and direct, but with one fatal flaw that sets the frenzied events of the play in motion.
Watch this video of the man himself talking about the role of John Proctor. “I knew that by playing him, I would be changed as a person,” Armitage admitted. “I feel I’ve been preparing this role, really, for ten years.”
