The Irish Examiner went in search of Ireland’s Top 100 Books, and discovered that their readers prefer the worlds of wizards and hobbits: the Harry Potter series came in at #1, followed by The Lord of the Rings at #2. However, when broken down by age category, LOTR make the top three for the age groups of 20-29, 30-39, and 40-49. (spotted by Middle-earth News reporter Lily)

The Hollywood Reporter has created their list of The Five Games Not To Miss at E3 this year, and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor finds itself among the ranks of this year’s hotly anticipated releases. According to the list, “this third-person adventure game has some of the stealth and movement of Assassin’s Creed, some really well thought-out strategy components, constantly evolving villains, and a lot of hack-and-slash release.” (spotted by Middle-earth News reporter Lily)

At first glance, this may look like medieval religious art, but it is actually an illustration of the Council of Elrond for a Russian edition of The Lord of the Rings by artist Sergei Iukhimov. A fire destroyed the 1883 Paradise homestead, a New Zealand Heritage site near Glenorchy, but director Peter Jackson has sent a message of support for the rebuilding efforts. “We first came to Paradise over 15 years ago,” Jackson wrote. “It is always a great privilege to film here. You could search the world over and never find a more beautiful place […] Fran and I are very proud to support the rebuilding of the Paradise Homestead and the efforts to protect this beloved part of Aotearoa.” (spotted by Middle-earth News reporter Valdis)

China’s Huading Film Award ceremony was held for the first time in the United States on Sunday, and The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit actor Orlando Bloom picked up the award for Best Global Movie Star. Winners were chosen by some 80 million members of the Chinese public who participated via surveys and internet polling, according to the Beijing-based Global Talents Media Group, which has organised the annual awards event since 2007. From King Post, creators of Moby Dick, or, The Card Game, and Highline Games, co-creators of the hit iOS game W.E.L.D.E.R., comes the next tale of adventure, struggle, and fate – Beowulf: A Board Game. The game is a tabletop strategy game for 3-6 players, and according to their official Twitter feed, Tolkien’s translation and accompanying notes are a major consideration in their adaptation.
