Sir Ian McKellen received the Honorary Degree by Cambridge University as Doctor of Letters during last June 18.
The Lord of the Rings actor already won a scholarship to study English literature at the Cambridge University, his own former college, when he was 18 years old.

“The honorary graduands donned scarlet gowns and black bonnets for a special ceremony in the Senate House, where they were presented with their degrees by the university’s chancellor Lord Sainsbury.
Flags were flown and the bells of Great St Mary’s Church rang out as the distinguished group processed around the Senate House yard, accompanied by leading members of the university.
Sir Ian, who read English at St Catharine’s College in the 1950s, was made a Doctor of Letters in honour of his lengthy career as an actor and director.” (Source: Cambridge News)
