Warriors of the Westfold: The Treasure Hunt Event

Every now and then, the Treasure Hunt (or Buried Treasure) Event will pop up in LOTRO, and players can dig for buried treasure (usually tokens, but occasionally some neat items will drop!). The event popped up unexpectedly this weekend, so the Warriors of the Westfold were sure to take advantage of the opportunity!

ALICE

This was my very first Treasure Hunt, so I didn’t know what to expect. For a while I digged up random dig-sites, then I lost 30 tokens for a Domesticated Cave Crawl, thinking it was a pet. But one thing was clear to me, I would never reach 1,000 tokens to barter the Harvest Brew Goat, so I hoped to find at least the Treasure Laden Steed or Goat, but it didn’t happen.

I played both with my Dwarf and my Hobbit, I basically found all the stuff you could barter in the dig sites, and I really like the /inspect gem emote. I really enjoyed this festival, the only thing I didn’t like was the berries quest. It was frustrating, because the other players kept stealing me all the bushes, so I spent ages to complete that quest.

AMANDA

Since this was my first Treasure Hunt, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was supposed to do when my Dwarf arrived at the Treasure Field. For a while, Rumki ran around excavating random dig-sites and even released a cave claw without following it! After consulting a few of the other Warriors, she was able to transform into a much savvier treasure hunter.

Here’s a very profitable treasure hunting method I was taught that may help you whenever the next Treasure Hunt event comes around:

Step 1) Make sure you have at least one Treasure Hunter’s pick and at least one Trained Cave-claw Cage in your inventory.

Step 2) Stand in the center of an area with many dig-sites.

Step 3) Wait for a new round to begin and then release your cave-claw.

Rumki was only able to locate one Huge Dig-site throughout the duration of the event. Unfortunately there was no treasure cache hidden within and only 15 Buried Treasure Tokens were found. Although she wasn’t lucky enough to find the holy grail of all prizes, the luxurious Treasure Laden Goat, Rumki was able to dig up a bunch of smaller prizes. She managed to find several Treasure Hunter’s Satchels, Rucksacks, and Packs. Despite unearthing many duplicate items, it was interesting to find that they were all different colours! Apart from her plethora of cosmetic bags, Rumki also uncovered a Treasure Chest (small furniture item), the /coinflip emote, a Jeweler’s Helm, and many Buried Treasure Tokens. Overall, a lot of fun was had and I’d say my first Treasure Hunt experience was a success!

BRITTA

I normally avoid the Treasure Hunt event simply because it is more difficult to get decent rewards. More often than not, players have to rely on luck to get any of the must-have drops (such as the Harvest-Brew Goat or the Treasure-Laden Steed, neither of which can be bartered for). The only reward I’ve ever considered saving tokens for is the Treasure-Laden Goat, which is 1,000 tokens – and, quite frankly, I don’t have the patience to wait for the two treasure-hunting quests to cooldown.

This year, however, I gave it another shot. My Guardian, Brondolfur, ultimately received two emotes (/counterfeit and /coinflip) and some cosmetic items; but when I remembered to equip Erebrandir’s Horseshoe, my Captain, Beornara, instantly found a huge dig site and finally won the Treasure-Laden Goat (not that she needs it, but it was still nice to win big!).

MARIA

The Treasure hunt caught me by surprise for several reasons. It has been my first Treasure hunt and somehow, I totally forgot that it exists, so when it began I was lost. I had no idea what to do. Somehow I managed the introduction quest, but did still not know what to do. Not two minutes into the actual quests, I was caught by surprise once again. My hobbit Lilloa was lucky enough to find the Treasure Laden Goat! I couldn’t believe my luck. It is so beautiful! Soon after, Lilloa found most other items that could be bartered, so no need to buy anything.

After being so lucky with Lilloa, I decided to devote my time to my dwarf Bornur. I want a Goat for my dwarf so badly, but to no avail. I followed all the great tips on how to find huge treasures, and while I managed to find large and huge treasures more frequently none of them had the Goat. This time, I didn’t try to save any tokens to buy Harvest Brew Goat for my dwarf, but that’ll change next time!

MYLA

I remember my first treasure hunt. I wandered around not knowing what I was supposed to be doing and digging up random dig-sites. I did actually get the Treasure Laden Steed though, it was a very proud moment! And I remember thinking I could totally get 1,000 tokens for the goat but that didn’t happen, so when I found out that the treasure hunt event was on again I made sure I would SUCCEED. I ran fighting to claim berries, I saved up every single token I got, and I repeatedly visited the Harvest Brew Goat thinking about how AWESOME my guardian would look with it. It took me THREE DAYS TO GET THE GOAT. THREE DAYS. Was it worth all of the time, and wrist pain? Maybe, maybe not, but I did achieve what I set out to do. And I was right. My guardian looks pretty fantastic on the goat. She named him Wetzel for reasons.

Some other goodies I got were emotes, packs, helms and more of the same packs and more of the same helms… but in different colors. My favorite find is definitely the /rich emote! Glad I didn’t barter for any items besides the goat since I ended up getting everything else I wanted from dig-sites. I don’t think I will spend a long time digging up tokens the next time a treasure hunt happens. But then again, I do have my eye on the Treasure Laden Goat…
