Dragon Con 2014 is almost upon us! Middle-earth News is excited to announce that we will be taking part for the first time this year. The incredible organizers, directors, and other con gods/goddesses have provided us with a fantastic Middle-earth lineup. With over 62,000 attendees expected this year, it’s sure to be an unforgettable event!
For those of you who don’t know, Dragon Con is an internationally known pop culture convention held in Atlanta, Georgia. This huge event takes place every year over the Labor Day weekend, starting on Friday morning and ending Monday afternoon. This year, the festivities will be held on August 29-September 1 in five (yes, FIVE) host hotels as well as the AmericasMart building. And don’t forget the parade on Saturday morning that runs through the streets of downtown Atlanta or the Dragon Con Night at the Georgia Aquarium. It is proud to be called a true FAN convention as it is organized for and by the fans and features more than about 3,000 hours of comics, film, television, costuming, art, music and gaming. For more information on its history, you can visit their website.
Staff Reporters Amanda Capley and Valdis Longbeard will be bringing you all the latest news from what has been called one of the best cons in the United States! Dragon Con is notorious for being a “24-hour con” with panels and other exciting events taking place at all hours of the day and night. It has also developed the reputation for drawing in some of the best cosplayers out there.
Conventions would not be the same without the inclusion of our beloved celebrity guests. Dragon Con is no exception as it draws in some of the biggest names in Fantasy, Science Fiction, and more! From The Hobbit, Dwarf brothers Nori and Ori, Jed Brophy and Adam Brown, and Manu Bennett (Azog) will be joining us. From The Lord of the Rings we have Pippin himself, Billy Boyd, along with Craig Parker (Haldir) and Karl Urban (Eomer).
A great con will also not forget to include fascinating panels! Our staff reporters Amanda Capley and Valdis Longbeard will both be featured panelists on the “Middle-earth vs. Westeros” panel set to take place on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Hyatt Regency V ballroom. Come join us for a spirited debate alongside TheOneRing.net staffers Larry Curtis (MrCere) and Kirsten Cairns (GreenDragon). Do you believe that G.R.R. could be the modern-day J.R.R. or that no one will could ever deserve such a title?
Staff reporter Amanda Capley will also be a panelist on “The Hobbit: Book to Film” panel taking place on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the main Tolkien-track room (Marriott L401-403). Come join her and a wonderful panel of authors, scholars, bloggers, and fans as they break down the differences between the Hobbit films and their source material.
