Happy Birthday, Billy Boyd!
Tolkien fans likely recognize Billy as the face of Pippin Took, the youngest of the four hobbits within the Fellowship of the Ring. Since his appearance in The Lord of the Rings, Billy has been involved in various feature films and stage productions. Additionally in 2013, Billy appeared in a production of Macbeth at the Shakespeare’s Globe in the role of Banquo.
Along with acting, Billy Boyd is also an accomplished musician and fronts Beecake, a band he and his friends formed in 2006. Though the band initially came together as an experiment in recording and writing songs, the idea grew into two albums: Soul Swimming was released in 2009 and Blue Sky Paradise was released in late 2012.
Billy is often involved in charity work. Some of his recent work includes: an appearance at “A CATbaret,” a show put on by Kitty Bungalow a charity that helps socialize feral cats in Los Angeles and his participation in “The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge,” in which Billy joined the thousands of celebrities and people around the world who have dumped a bucket of ice water on themselves to help raise money and awareness for ALS Research (you can watch that video here).
Here’s to wishing a most excellent of hobbits, a very happy birthday!
Billy will be a guest at Dragon Con this weekend in Atlanta, Georgia: if you get a chance to see him, be sure to wish him a happy belated birthday!
