The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit come third and fourth, respectively, in a list of Facebook users favourite books.
Researchers Lada Adamic and Pinkesh Patel analysed the data from a meme that has circulated on Facebook for the last year asking people to list the top ten books that have “stayed with [them] in some way”. From the 130,000 responses Adamic and Patel found Harry Potter topped the list, being mentioned in almost 22% of lists. The Lord of the Rings was in third place with 13.86% and The Hobbit in fourth (7.48%) reports The Telegraph.
Respondents were mainly from the US (63.7%), India (9.3%) and the UK (6.3%): two thirds were women: the average age was 37 years.
