A brand new trailer for the extended edition of The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug has just been released! Perhaps the most exciting part of this trailer is when viewers catch their first glimpse of Thrain in Dol Guldur. Thrain has been a topic of much debate among fans especially after making a brief appearance in the Desolation of Smaug trailer yet remaining nowhere to be found in the movie itself. All speculation can now be put to rest as we have solid proof that he will in fact make an appearance in the extended edition.

The extended edition will add 25 minutes of extra footage to the movie and over nine hours of behind-the-scenes special features.
In a press release, Warner Brothers had this to say of their upcoming home release:
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition will be available as a 5-disc Blu-ray 3D set featuring the Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray versions of the Extended Edition; and a 5 disc DVD. The Blu-ray 3D includes a 2D digital version of the movie on with UltraViolet.
The nine-plus hours of new special features boasts audio commentary with Peter Jackson, the film’s director/producer/screenwriter, and Philippa Boyens, co-producer/screenwriter, as well as “The Appendices,” a multi-part documentary focusing on various aspects of the film and the Trilogy. ALL-NEW SPECIAL FEATURES ON BLU-RAY 3D AND DVD

The extended edition of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be out on Blu-ray and DVD on November 4 (US) and November 3 (UK). The Digital HD version will be available on October 21.
