ALICE
While I always felt myself like a Hobbit, I’ve always been fascinated by the Elves. So I started playing LOTRO with a female Elf Hunter, because I wanted to follow Tolkien’s lore and Legolas is always been my favourite character of The Lord of the Rings. Also I wrongly thought that an Elf would be stronger during fights (I had no idea of how MMOs worked). But, after months playing with my first character, I wasn’t happy at 100% with it, I felt uncomfortable playing in not-elven places like the Shire, Thorin’s Hall or Bree-town. I didn’t like how my she-Elf looked like wearing dresses or leggings. She looked awkwardly tall to visit my favourite places in the Shire, also I didn’t like her movements while she was running or riding a horse.
After meeting Maria and Myla in-game, who were both playing with Hobbits, I realized how cute they were, both Hobbits and their ponies! So I created my Hobbit Hunter, Asphothel, more or less a year ago (not very lore-friendly, but Hunter is my favourite class). During the following months I gave a chance to all the other genders+races and I realized that, after the Hobbits, I like playing with Dwarves, even if they are difficult to dress up, but my less favourite race is female Human. I hope that the upcoming Beorning class will change my mind!
In my opinion, Hobbits can be cute and lethal at the same time and I love to spoil my Hobbit Hunter with pretty dresses and accessories. I even created a Twitter profile for her and her own adventures (@asphothelberry).

The Dwarves have always been my favourite Middle-earth race. That’s why it comes as no surprise that my most beloved LOTRO character is a Dwarf. It is impossible to deny enjoying their cries of “Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd ai-mênu!” as well as their luxurious beards and fierce personalities.
However, I choose to play my Dwarf a bit differently than you would imagine. My Dwarf Hunter, Rumki, is female (at least in my eyes). Currently, the only way to differentiate a female Dwarf from a male Dwarf is to have her wear a dress. At first I felt very alone but I am starting to encounter more and more female Dwarves throughout my travels! Just as I was beginning to feel more comfortable, something occurred to remind me that LOTRO Dwarves are all largely considered male. Not too long ago, Rumki was adopted by Britta’s Dwarf, Brondolfur. Upon completing the adoption, she gained the new title of “Rumki, Son of Brondolfur.” While she was happy to be reunited with her father, she would have much rather been named “Daughter.”
You can now follow Rumki’s adventures on Twitter (@RumkiDwarf)!
BRITTA
I have one Hobbit, two Dwarves, three Men, and three Elves on Landroval – Brittanyia (level 100 Champion), Beruthien (level 75 Rune-keeper), and Belegraen (level 25 Warden); I’ve got a level 30 Hunter, Belegrian, on Nimrodel. I’d have to say the Elves are my favourite because they have some of the best customisation options (better than Women characters, anyway!). And, of course, the Elves are much more graceful.
While I love all of my toons, I have had the most fun with my Elven characters. I think I chose some excellent class/race combinations. At some point, I’ll likely purchase some more character slots or alt onto another server so I can try out some other Elf/class combinations. In the meantime, I’d like to go back and create some back stories for all of my characters so I can start getting into role-playing.
MARIA
At this point, it is no surprise when I say that I love Hobbits. While I started out with a Hobbit, I tried all races and came to the conclusion that I prefer Hobbits. Actually, I prefer female Hobbits, to be precise. I’ve tried all races and genders and the race/gender combination I like the least is female Human. I don’t know why but the appearance of female Humans is so odd to me. I can’t tell you what exactly I dislike, I just don’t like female Humans. In general, I prefer the smaller races, Hobbits and Dwarves because the larger ones look so awkward when they run and ride their mounts. But back to Hobbits. I know that female Hobbits, exploring Middle-earth, is not particularly lore appropriate, but I enjoy questing with them because of that even more. Part of me enjoys sending both of my female Hobbits (Hunter & Burglar) on dangerous quests because it somewhat looks funny to see a tiny Hobbit killing giants, trolls and orcs.
